About Us

Place of Hope is an innovative, Christ-centered ministry located in Columbia, TN. This unique center is a sixty-four bed facility that provides quality care for adult men and women dealing with issues of alcoholism, addiction, and co-occurring disorders throughout Tennessee and the rest of the country.

Our Story

The following is the story of the conception and birth of Place of Hope. We hope you enjoy knowing where it all began and who the Lord used to carry out His plan.

• It all began on March 1, 1988.
• Working with key administration officials at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN, Rev. Mike Coupe opened an 11-bed alcohol and drug treatment unit and a 15-bed psychiatric unit within the hospital.
• For 10 years, the units were very successful, providing quality treatment programs and services to people in South Central Tennessee and beyond.
  Hospital administration made a decision to close the alcohol and drug treatment and psychiatric units in January 1997, due to the changes in Medicaid reimbursement and managed care.
• Rev. Coupe made a decision to continue helping alcoholics, addicts and homeless people, and started a 501 (c)(3) non-profit ministry. So, the Place of Hope was born in January 1997.
• Mr. Forrest Preston enabled Place of Hope to use his recently vacated Bel-Air Nursing Home as the ministry location and facility.
  Much work was needed for the building to be licensed by the State of Tennessee as a residential and halfway house, alcohol and drug treatment facility.
• The program opened and began taking in residents on April 20, 2000.
• In February 2006, Forrest Preston donated the building to the Place of Hope. This man’s kind and generous gift continues to bless the lives of many people.
